A collaboration between Avatar AI and WillyBot
The future of domestic robotics is not only about making robots smarter. It is also about making the spaces in which robots operate more intelligent.
WillySpace is Avatar AI's smart-space technology concept, developed to support the WillyBot robotics platform with an intelligent spatial layer around the robot.
WillyBot provides the robotic platform. WillySpace provides the surrounding intelligence.
Together, the two technologies can create a more aware, connected and supportive environment for domestic mobile robotics.
Giving WillyBot a smarter space to operate in
A mobile robot can only understand its surroundings from the information available to its own sensors.
WillySpace takes a different approach.
Instead of placing all perception and spatial intelligence directly on the robot, WillySpace creates an intelligent infrastructure within the home. A central Avatar AI edge computer can observe and understand the surrounding environment using a wide-field LiDAR sensor, while strategically positioned smart beacons provide additional positioning and communication references.
WillySpace can then communicate relevant spatial information to WillyBot.
This creates a cooperative relationship:
WillySpace understands the space.
WillyBot moves through the space.
Together, they create a smarter robotic environment.
How WillySpace works
At the centre of the system is the WillySpace AI Edge Computer, developed by Avatar AI.
The concept uses a compact enclosure derived from the Avatar AI Carsten 1 product architecture, adapted specifically for indoor smart-space applications.
Instead of the three-sensor configuration used by Carsten 1, WillySpace is designed around a wide-field LiDAR sensor capable of providing a broad spatial view of the home.
The system can build a three-dimensional representation of the surrounding environment and derive information useful for robotic navigation and spatial awareness.
Smart beacons distributed through the home can provide additional positioning references and communication points.
The resulting information can then be shared with WillyBot.
A partnership between space intelligence and robotics
The collaboration brings together two complementary areas of technology.
WillyBot focuses on the robot its mobility, hardware, software, interaction and robotic capabilities.
Avatar AI focuses on environmental intelligence perception, spatial understanding, edge AI and the intelligent infrastructure surrounding the robot.

Mobile robots operate close to the ground, where their own sensors can be limited by their height and by obstacles such as parked vehicles, fences, bushes, containers, stairs and buildings.
Carsten 1 acts as an AI lighthouse for mobile robots, providing an elevated perception layer that helps robots understand more of their surrounding environment.
By combining LiDAR, thermal infrared sensing, wide-angle RGB vision and GPU-powered edge AI, Carsten 1 can perceive and process environmental information locally and share relevant information with nearby robots.
